Arshdeep Singh named ICC Men's T20 International Player of the Year 2024

Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh on Saturday was announced as the ICC Men's T20 International Player of the Year 2024 for his impressive performance.

Other nominees for the award were Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza, Pakistan's Babar Azam and Australia's Travis Head. Singh was voted as the best amongst the nominated players by fans.

The left-arm pacer, who recently became the highest wicket-taker for India in the shortest format, played 18 matches and picked up 36 wickets in 2024. He bowled at an average of 13.50 and maintained an economy rate of 7.49 runs per over.


Singh was India's most successful bowler in the T20 World Cup, finishing with the second-most wickets in the tournament with 17 scalps from eight games. India went on to win the tournament.

Only four players in the world took more T20I wickets than Arshdeep in the calendar year – Saudi Arabia’s Usman Najeeb (38), Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga (38), UAE’s Junaid Siddique (40) and Hong Kong’s Ehsan Khan (46) – with all four playing more matches.

The 25-year-old has risen quickly after making his debut in 2022, picking up 97 wickets in 61 T20I matches with a career best figures of 4/9.

Known for his accuracy and composure, Arshdeep excelled in the death overs, often turning games in India’s favor, and his ability to swing the ball early and execute pin-point yorkers at the end made him a complete package in T20 cricket.

Singh was also named in the ICC T20I Team of the Year 2024 earlier in the day, along side Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya.

In a post on social media, BCCI congratulated the pacer.

"Congratulations to Arshdeep Singh for being voted the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year 2024. May you keep winning more awards and wish you another year filled with lots of success," the post read.


"Feels great to win the ICC T20I men's cricketer of the year award. I am very grateful. I am thankful to God. Thank you everyone who helped get the best out of me. The special moment was the final, as every Indian would say," Arshdeep told ICC after winning the award.

"I just try to bring the best out of myself for the team and give them good results," the pacer concluded.
