With polls around, BJP seeks to woo tribals

The BJP today promised a slew of schemes for the welfare of Rajasthan's tribal population if voted to power in the upcoming Assembly elections.

UDAIPUR: The BJP today promised a slew of schemes for the welfare of Rajasthan's tribal population if voted to power in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Party state chief Vasundhara Raje said if voted to power, BJP will waive-off loans of small and marginal farmers under the tribal sub-area plan (TSAP).

She was speaking here during the poll rally of BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

The elections in Rajasthan are slated for December 1. Raje also announced that a special police battalion will be formed and named after Rajput king Maharana Pratap.

A mega highway road plan in Mewar, filling up of vacancies under TSAP, schemes for sportsmen, new polytechnics and ITIs, mobile health unit for animal husbandry, implementation of forest act and withdrawal of criminal cases against tribals were among the other promises that figured in her speech.

Raje said all these promises figure in party's poll manifesto and will be fulfilled within 100 days of BJP coming to power.
