Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “silence” on the ethnic violence in Manipur during a short duration discussion in the two-day special session of the Delhi assembly on Thursday.

Delhi is the third Opposition-ruled state after Rajasthan and West Bengal to discuss the violence in the northeastern state. Kejriwal accused Modi of being hesitant to address significant issues since taking office.

He said, “The prime minister is like a father figure. He turned his back on the daughters of Manipur. You kept sitting in your room. The entire country is asking the reason for the PM’s silence. It is not the first time that he is silent. Whenever there is a crisis situation over the past nine years, the prime minister has remained silent.”

Earlier in the day, three BJP MLAs were marshalled out of the House after they objected to discussing the situation in Manipur, asserting that it was a matter beyond the jurisdiction of the assembly.
