Vasundhara Raje: It is a victory of the people of Rajasthan

With the BJP looking good to win at least three out of the five states that went into polls last week, it seems like a real shot in the arm for the party before the big general elections slated for May 2014.

In Rajasthan, the BJP looks set for a resounding victory and is leading in 137 out of a possible 199 seats.

BJP state president and former chief minister Vasundhara Raje was leading from her home constituency of Jhalarapatan in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district by a margin of 3,923 votes against her nearest rival of Congress Meenakshi Chandrawat.

The ruling Congress is leading in only 35 seats, while the National People's Party candidates were leading in 8 seats. Candidates of other parties were leading on 17 seats.

"It is a victory of the people of Rajasthan," Raje tweeted and told reporters that ​the party workers had toiled very hard to make this victory happen, adding that she had seen the anger among people and had predicted a big win for the BJP in the state, but even she did not expect it to be so massive.

"People have a lot of hope as well as anger and it is going to be huge responsibility to lead them," Raje said.

On the importance of the Modi factor, she said that it is always a big factor and she was proud to have a leader like Modi.

"It is a mandate for change not only in Rajasthan, but also in the entire country," she claimed.
There were 166 women candidates and one eunuch candidate in the fray.

While Congress and BJP have fielded 200 candidates each, the BSP (195), CPI(M)(38), CPI (23), NCP (16), other parties (666) and Independents (758) including the Churu Assembly constituency.
