LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh has recorded its first casualty owing to Covid-19 with a 25-year old from Basti having tested positive after his death on March 30 at Gorakhpur's BRD Hospital. This is also India's youngest death so far.

The youth was brought to Gorakhpur's BRD Hospital on Sunday evening and was suffering from kidney and liver problems, the institute's principal Ganesh Kumar has told PTI.

He passed away on the morning of March 30. The sample was then sent for testing to Lucknow's King George Medical University where the result came positive which has sparked the fear of the youth passing it on to many people he may have come in contact with, including doctors and paramedics.

Gorakhpur's chief medical officer and the DM have been reviewing the situation at the hospital.

The two lab technicians, who had taken his samples, have been admitted to the quarantine ward of the hospital as a precautionary measure, Kumar told PTI.
