Days after former RBI Governor, Urjit Patel's resignation, PM Narendra Modi in his first interview to ANI this year said, Urjit Patel had personally written to him about wanting to resign, citing personal reasons, several months before stepping down from the office in December.

Narendra Modi also acknowledged the performance of Urjit Patel as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.

Citing personal reasons, Urjit Patel had resigned as the Reserve Bank of India governor in December 11. His resignation came after tensions between the Finance ministry and the Reserve Bank of India had spilled into the public domain.
