Step down as Party President: Shivpal Yadav to Akhilesh Yadav

KANPUR: SP leader Shivpal Yadav has yet again demanded that Akhilesh Yadav should take ‘moral responsibility’ for the defeat of Samajwadi Party in assembly elections and step down as party president.

This is the second time in less than a week that Shivpal has sought the resignation of his nephew and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav from the post.

“He (Akhilesh) had promised that after three months, he would hand over the post of party chief to Netaji (SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav). Three months are over and my suggestion to him is that he should step down,” Shivpal said while talking to reporters at Daak Bangla in Fatehpur on Sunday.


Akhilesh Yadav was elected as national president of Samajwadi Party at the executive meeting called by Ram Gopal Yadav in January.

Shivpal also pointed out that it was under Akhilesh as chief minister that the party suffered a loss in the Lok Sabha elections.

“When he became national president, even then he could not live up to expectations and the party again suffered defeat in the assembly elections. He should fulfil what he had said so that we can sit and unite the Samajwadi ‘parivar’ and the party. Only then would we be able to stop BJP,” Shivpal said.

On April 18, Shivpal had said in Mainpuri that Akhilesh had failed because he did not listen to anyone.

He had also said that he would launch a campaign to unite ‘Samajwadis’ (socialists) to bring them on one platform.
