KOLKATA: A group of pro-Left group of scientists and science activists is set to organise a meeting in Kolkata on November 29 to protest what it termed an increase in intolerance in the country. The event, which comes after the CPI (M) organised rallies in districts and villages across West Bengal, is being seen as part of the party’s attempts at resurgence in the state in the run-up to the assembly polls next year.

In a statement, Paschimbanga Vigyan Mancha said it is organising the meeting to raise its voice against the recent incidents of “intolerance, attack on reason, science and our plural culture”.

The meeting of scientists, science activists and people from other fields will be held at Rani Rashmoni Avenue in Kolkata.

CPI (M) leaders said the party’s fight for a “secular India” will not stop after an electoral victory.

“We do not indulge into electoral politics like others. We are fighting for a secular India. And that is why our fight and protest will not stop after an electoral victory. You must be seeing that all big political parties stopped their movement on intolerance after the Bihar election. But we will continue with our protest programme,” said a senior leader.
