In the 2017 polls, Congress was the single-largest party. But it failed to form a govt after several leaders quit the party, following which BJP successfully stitched up a coalition.

The term of current State Assembly is due for expiry on March 19.

The state has 60 assembly constituencies (40 Gen ACs; 1 SC and 19 ST AC).
