Mamata Banerjee hits Manipur trail, meets Irom Sharmila Chanu

IMPHAL: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee made an impromptu visit to Irom Sharmila Chanu immediately on her arrival in Manipur to address a poll rally on Wednesday.

The Bengal CM went to the hospital where Sharmila, on a 12-year fast to demand the repeal of the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act ( AFSPA), is being force-fed in judicial custody.

Mamata promised Sharmila removal of the “draconian” AFSPA “if we come to power” and reiterated her promise at the rally to cheering crowds.
