Kolkata Metro and UP shrines get CCTV systems
Railway stations and places of worship are among the most popular targets for terror attacks.
Pramoud V Rao, MD, Zicom, refused to reveal the exact names of the temple concerned, citing reasons of confidentiality but has this to say on the growing demand: “Terrorists targeting public transport systems and public places is now a matter of concern in India and therefore state governments are investing in security systems at public places.” The shrines project is still in the implementation stage and is expected to be commissioned around mid February 2007.
Zicom has also bagged a similar assignment for the Kolkatta metro, which is being implemented two phases - one phase covering 17 stations and the second phase will cover six. There will be ten cameras at each station with a combination of fixed dome and PTZ cameras and a digital video recorder to be installed at the 23 stations on metro rail. The video will be recorded and monitored locally at the station master’s office as well as viewed remotely at Metro Bhavan. Phase one will see installations in Dumdum central, Kalighat, Rabindra Sadan, Tollygunga, Esplanade, Shyam Bazaar and MG Road. The metro project worth Rs 2.76 crore includes cost for setting up a network, CCTV hardware and software.
