The Passenger Ropeway Project at Guwahati was the dream project of Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The ropeway connects North Guwahati to Guwahati City traversing over the 1.8 KM stretch on the mighty Brahmaputra river.
The Ropeway will operate from Kachari Ghat in Panbazaar, up to the Dol Govinda Temple in North Guwahati. "Overlooking the beautiful Brahmaputra River, the 1 .8 km long ropeway will facilitate passengers to cross the river reducing the travel time by an impressive difference. Keep your eyes wide open and look out for the Urvashi Island and catch a glimpse of the Umananda Temple on Peacock Island," the govt said in a statement.
The ropeway is a Twin Track, Single Haul, Bi-Cable Double reversible Jig Back system with 2 Cabins each Capacity of 30 + 1 (Passengers + Operators), Ropeway Capacity of 250 PPH (Persons Per Hour).
“The Ropeway has been built as per State of Art technology following relevant Indian and international standards. The ropeway is a convenient and non-polluting means of transport, as well as a source of environmentally friendly tourism. It is ecologically sustainable as it is run by Electric power protecting the beauty of the area, while simultaneously providing passengers with a comfortable and speedy means of travel”, state government added.
