Gopal Italia arrested over derogatory remarks against Gujarat BJP leaders, gets bail

AAP National Joint Secretary Gopal Italia was arrested by the Surat crime branch on Monday over his controversial remarks against Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi. He was later granted bail.

The senior AAP leader was booked by the Surat police in September for his alleged defamatory comments about minister of state for home Harsh Sanghavi and Gujarat BJP president C R Paatil. Italia allegedly addressed Sanghavi as Drugs Sanghvi and Paatil as ex-bootlegger in a viral video.

"Since offences in the FIR were bailable, Crime Branch let me go. AAP showed its strength in the last election in Gujarat, which is considered BJP's stronghold. That is why they are scared..," Italia said after getting bail.


Reacting to Italia's arrest, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said BJP's only aim was to finish his party now.

"BJP is so shocked by the spectacular performance of the Aam Aadmi Party in Gujarat that it has now arrested our Gujarat leader Gopal Italia. Now, BJP has only one aim, how to finish Aam Aadmi Party. These people will put everyone in jail one by one," he said.

This is not the first time that Italia was arrested for his alleged derogatory remarks. The senior AAP leader was detained by the Delhi ploice for his alleged remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October last year.
