"The real war of dharma has just begun... people will support us," AMMK chief TTV Dhinakaran has said. Addressing the media in Chennai on Monday, Dhinakaran said his goal was only to establish ‘J Jayalalithaa's rule’ in the state, when asked if he was not concerned about split in AIADMK’s votes.

“We are contesting the election in the hope that we will win. We are contesting in the hope that votes will not be scattered, and people of Tamil Nadu will vote for us," he said. He said AMMK was in talks with other parties for an alliance and there will be clarity in two days.

Dhinakaran's aunt VK Sasikala had announced her decision ‘not to join politics’ unexpectedly, last week. exit from public life and politics last week, leaving him to fight a lone battle. Sasikala was touted as the gamechanger and the BJP was keen on the AIADMK alliance, of which it is a part to share seats AMMK. Analysts believe BJP may still try to bring a rapprochement between the erstwhile AIADMK factions.
