Congress under pressure from allies to boycott parliamentary panel

New Delhi: The Congress leadership appeared to have come under extreme pressure from many regional parties that are, and advocating for, boycotting the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to scrutinise the bills on removal of jailed ministers, saying their opposition to the bill is too strong and the panel won't make any difference.

With poll-bound Bihar ally RJD too toying with the idea of joining the boycott brigade of Trinamool, SP, SS-UBT and AAP, it is adding to pressure despite Congress' instincts to join JPC. However, DMK's TKS Elangovan said his party favoured joining JPC to register its opposition to the bill. "We have reasons to think that joining the JPC can be useful, but we also want to take everybody together against BJP," said a Congress MP.
