Venugopal, who chairs the Public Accounts Committee, claimed the government was not punishing the Sebi chief due to Adani.
Raising the matter during the discussion on the supplementary demands for grants, Venugopal listed the charges that the Congress has been levelling against the Sebi chief, including accusing her of having allegedly received over ₹16 crore between 2017 and 2024 from ICICI Bank while working as a Sebi official.
"Inaction against the Sebi chairperson undermines the government's claim of commitment to investor confidence," Venugopal said.
The finance minister was not present in the House. In his brief response, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju said: "Modi Ji didn't make the person, whom you are repeatedly talking about. You gave ports and airports to him. Don't blame us. There are many industrialists in this country and they were born in your time. We made unicorns, we launched start-ups."
