Chattisgarh CM Baghel got 508 cr from absconding promoters Mahadev App: ED

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on Friday said that it is probing if Chattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel received ₹508 crore from absconding promoters of illegal betting app, Mahadev Book.

The agency said that the 'startling allegations have come forth during the interrogation of an arrested courier (somebody who ferries cash). Following a credible inputs, the agency said it conducted search operations in the poll-bound state of Chattisgarh. Subsequently it arrested Das, who was allegedly sent by the absconding promoters, Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal of the Mahadev Book app. "...On 2.11.2023, ED received intelligence input that large amount of cash is being moved in Chhattisgarh by the promoters of Mahadev APP in relation to Assembly Elections scheduled on 7th & 17th of November, 2023.

ED conducted searches at Hotel Triton and another location in Bhilai and successfully intercepted a cash courier Asim Das who was sent from UAE especially, to deliver large amount of cash for electioneering expenses of the ruling Congress. ED has recovered cash amount of ₹5.39 Crore (from his Car & at his residence)," the ED said on Friday.
