The passing of the Waqf Bill in both the Houses of Parliament has given a boost to the BJP ahead of Biar elections.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the party got 240 seats and it is dependent on its NDA allies for their support, not only to run the government but also to sail through key legislations. In August last year, the Waqf Bill was presented in Parliament and was sent to a JPC. At that time, it was perceived that the government had to do it due to the pressure from its allies and the Opposition. By securing the support of all the NDA allies now, the BJP has sent a message that the NDA parties are aligned on policy issues and are ready to work as a group when required.

In Bihar, which is headed for assembly elections later this year, the stand of parties like JDU, LJP (Ram Vilas) and HAM, was crucial for the BJP. The leaders of the three parties have boasted of their secular credentials to win support among the minority community. LJP leader and Union minister Chirag Paswan did not hesitate earlier in criticising the UP government's order on Namaz during Eid or the other Hindu-Muslim narrative pushed by the BJP leaders at the state level. However, for the Waqf Bill, the three parties voted in favour of the government and presented their own logic for the support, boosting BJP's confidence ahead of the polls.

This comes as Union home minister Amit Shah during his Bihar visit last week, instructed party leaders to work as a team before the upcoming assembly elections, even in the areas where the MLA is from the NDA partners.
