Bihar polls: Nitish Kumar rubbishes star partner Yogi Adityanath's campaign talk of CAA evictions

Although the Bihar CM did not take any names during his rebuttal, it is widely being seen as a reference to a speech by the Uttar Pradesh CM, who is one of BJP's star campaigners for the ongoing state assembly elections.

Bihar Elections: Nitish Kumar slams Yogi Adityanath's CAA comment
KISHANGANJ/ARARIA: After Yogi Adityanath made a comment on "throwing out infiltrators" at a Bihar campaign rally, Nitish Kumar publicly dismissed it as faltoo baat (rubbish talk). Nobody can evict any citizen from the country, Kumar said.

Kumar said this at a rally in Muslims-dominated Kishanganj and Araria districts where voting is set to take place on November 7, the third and final phase.

Kumar's rejoinder was picked up by the media after some poll pundits perceived it as a sign of growing cracks in the ruling coalition of which BJP is a partner.

The Bihar CM sought to allay fears among a section of the society that some people might be deported out of the country after the CAA is implemented. This is rubbish talk by those trying to divide the society, he said.

Kumar's address followed a speech by Adityanath at Katihar, who had said, "Modi ji has found a solution for infiltration issue... With CAA, he ensured the safety of tortured minorities of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The Centre also said any infiltrator who tries to breach security of the country will be thrown out."

Although the Bihar CM did not take any names during his rebuttal, it is widely being seen as a reference to the campaign speech by the UP CM, who is one of BJP's star campaigners for the ongoing state assembly elections.

The CAA grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and who came to India on or before December 31, 2014. The country had seen major upheavals over the act before Covid lockdown put an end to the protests.
