IMPHAL: Militants exploded a powerful grenade at the house of Congress candidate E Chand Singh of Yaiskul assembly constituency in Imphal East district of Manipur, police said today.

The militants hurled the grenade at Singh's house at Yonglan area near here last night but no casualty was reported.

Singh and his family members were present at the time of the incident.

Coordination committee ( CORCOM) of seven major insurgent organisations claimed that they were responsible for the incident.

In another incident, two militants who tried to plant bomb at the house of Congress candidate Bijoy Koijam of Thongju assembly constituency in Imphal West district were arrested last evening, sources said.

CORCOM had attacked Congress candidates and exploded at their supporters before and after the election on January 28 saying that the party was against the 'revolutionary movement' in the state.
