GUWAHATI: Of 1,064 candidates contesting in the Assam Assembly election this year, 124 have not passed school while seven have doctorate degrees, an analysis on the basis of candidates' self-sworn affidavits done by two organisations working for electoral reforms showed.

Three of them are 'illiterate' while 140 candidates are postgraduates, the analysis by the Assam Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) said.

They also found that 10 of them are 'literate', 111 left schooling before giving 10th class exams and 212 are 10th class pass, an official statement said.

Another 209 are class 12 pass, 274 are graduates, 78 graduate professionals, 140 postgraduates, while 7 have doctorate degrees, it said.

While 15 candidates mentioned 'others' as their qualification, three have not given their educational background, the statement said.
