An analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), a nonprofit organisation, has shown that 11 political parties collected a total of ₹2,078 crore in donations during Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat assembly elections last year while the total expenditure incurred was ₹288 crore.

Himachal Pradesh went to the polls in November 2022 and Gujarat in December last year. The parties filed their reports on funds collected and expenses incurred to the EC early this year. The total funds collected by the parties at their central headquarters amounted to ₹1,943 crore and expenditure was ₹111 cr. While Gujarat state units spent ₹169 crore, Himachal Pradesh state units spent about ₹9 cr.-OPB
