Whatsapp Web is down for several users
Several users across the globe reported disruptions while using instant messaging app WhatsApp with many reporting issues accessing the platform's web version. The outage, which affected both personal and business accounts, left users unable to connect or send messages via WhatsApp Web, prompting frustration and a flurry of complaints across social media platforms.

According to Downdetector, the online website performance tracking tool, about 57% WhatsApp users have reported issues with the web, while 35% report facing issues on the app. Users have also reported the issue on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Whatsapp Down Globally: Reasons

Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has not released any official statement addressing the cause of the disruption.

Recently, WhatsApp is reportedly testing a feature that will enable users to combat the growing issue of spammy business messages on its platform. The upcoming feature will allow users to provide feedback to businesses about the types of messages they wish to receive.

Currently, users can only choose between receiving all messages from a business or blocking them completely. This means that users will have to miss out on all messages – whether important order updates or marketing messages. According to a report by TechCrunch, WhatsApp users will soon be provided options, including “interested/not interested” and “stop/resume” buttons for specific message categories that were only present in the backend.

These categories include marketing (offers, new products), utility (order updates, account balance), authentication (one-time passwords) and service (customer inquiries). The report indicates that these categories will provide users to stop one or more types of message while continuing to receive the ones they want.
