Weather today, September 28: Heavy rain alert for Uttarakhand, Karnataka; Telangana, Andhra Pradesh face thunderstorms; check latest IMD update

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for Uttarakhand, South Interior Karnataka and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for September 28.

Thunderstorm and gusty wind alerts are also out for Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and parts of the northeast, IMD said in its all India bulletin issued on the night of September 27.

The bulletin also says a low pressure area over the north Andaman Sea is likely to become a depression within 24 hours. Fishermen have been asked to stay away from parts of the sea.

Uttarakhand weather today: Heavy rain alert on September 28

Uttarakhand is under a heavy rain alert today. IMD says isolated places may get heavy rain, while rain with thunderstorm and lightning is likely at many places in the state. On September 27, the state had a very heavy rain warning, and rain fell at most places. Dehradun and Tehri recorded 2 cm each. IMD warns of landslides, waterlogging and traffic trouble in areas facing heavy rain.

Karnataka weather today: Heavy rain alert for South Interior Karnataka

South Interior Karnataka is on heavy rain alert today, and the alert runs until October 1. Rain is likely at a few places today and will turn fairly widespread from September 29. IMD says low lying areas may see flooding and visibility may drop during heavy spells. Coastal Karnataka may see scattered rain on September 28. IMD expects the rain to turn fairly widespread from September 29 to October 3. North Interior Karnataka may get isolated rain.

Telangana weather today: Thunderstorm alert

Telangana may see thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph today. Isolated rain is likely on September 28 as well. IMD advises people not to take shelter under trees during lightning. The state is expected to turn dry from September 29 to October 1.

Andhra Pradesh weather today: Thunderstorm and strong wind alert

Andhra Pradesh may face thunderstorm and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph today. Strong surface winds are likely in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema until October 1. Isolated rain is expected in both regions through the week.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands weather today: Heavy rain and thundersquall

Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in the islands today. A thundersquall with wind speed of 50 to 60 kmph, gusting up to 70 kmph, is also likely. IMD says small ships, trawlers and boats may be affected.

Tamil Nadu weather today: Rain and gusty wind alert

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal may see scattered rain today, with thunderstorm, lightning and winds of 40 to 50 kmph. Heavy rain is likely in the region from September 29 to October 1.

Kerala weather today: Isolated rain, heavy rain from September 30

Kerala and Mahe may see isolated rain today. Heavy rain is expected from September 30 to October 3, and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph are likely from September 29. Rain will turn fairly widespread in the state from October 1.

Himachal Pradesh weather today: Thunderstorm alert

Himachal Pradesh may get scattered rain with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph. The state had a heavy rain alert on September 27, and Mandi and Kalpa recorded 2 cm each.

Uttar Pradesh and Bihar weather today

Both states may see isolated rain today. West Uttar Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar were on heavy rain alert on September 27, when Moradabad recorded 3 cm of rain. Bihar may also see gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph today.

Delhi weather today: Isolated rain, dry spell from September 29

Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab may see isolated rain today. IMD says dry weather will follow from September 29 to October 3. Delhi Ridge recorded a minimum of 16.8 degrees Celsius on September 27, the lowest on the plains.

Rajasthan weather today: Thunderstorm with gusty winds

Rajasthan may see isolated rain and thunderstorm with winds of 40 to 50 kmph today. Phalodi recorded 40.2 degrees Celsius on September 27, the highest maximum temperature in the country.

Northeast India weather today: Assam and Meghalaya thunderstorm alert

Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may see isolated rain and thunderstorm with gusts of 40 to 50 kmph today. Heavy rain is likely in these states on September 29 and 30.

Maharashtra weather today: Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada

Madhya Maharashtra may see scattered rain today, with gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. Konkan and Goa may see isolated rain.

Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh weather today

These states may see isolated rain today. Odisha may face gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph, while Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh may see lightning.

Fishermen warning: Bay of Bengal depression and

A well marked low pressure area over the north Andaman Sea is likely to become a depression within 24 hours. IMD says it may then move towards the northeast Bay of Bengal near Bangladesh. Fishermen are asked to stay away from the Andaman Sea until the evening of September 28, from the Myanmar coast and nearby sea until September 30 evening, and from the Bangladesh coast from September 29 to 30.
