Weather forecast for September 28

In northwest India, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Uttarakhand on September 28. The IMD has also forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand. Himachal Pradesh and other parts of northwest India may receive isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning.


A well-marked low-pressure area over northern parts of central Uttar Pradesh is likely to move north-northwestwards across the state and gradually weaken into a low-pressure area during the next 12 hours. The system is expected to influence weather conditions across parts of Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring areas.

In central India, isolated to scattered rainfall is expected over West Madhya Pradesh from September 27 to 30, while East Madhya Pradesh is likely to receive rain from September 27 to October 1. Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are also expected to see rainfall during the coming days. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely over parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on September 28.

In eastern India, rain and thunderstorms are likely over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Bihar is also likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands may experience heavy rain and thundersqualls, with wind speeds potentially reaching 50-60 kmph and gusting to 70 kmph.

Rain, thunderstorms in northeast India

Several parts of northeast India are also expected to receive rain. Arunachal Pradesh may see isolated to scattered rainfall through October 3, while Assam, Meghalaya and the other northeastern states are likely to receive rain during the coming days.

The IMD has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over Assam and Meghalaya from September 28 to 30. Winds may reach 40-50 kmph and gust to 60 kmph in some areas. Similar conditions are expected over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from September 28.

Weather in Maharashtra, Gujarat and western India

In western India, isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Gujarat, Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra through October 3. Marathwada may receive rain from September 27 to 29.

Madhya Maharashtra could also see gusty winds on September 28, with wind speeds of 30-40 kmph and gusts reaching 50 kmph. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely over parts of the region in the following days.

South India weather

Several southern states are also likely to receive rain on September 28. Isolated to scattered rainfall is forecast over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, among other areas.

Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are possible over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Parts of Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Telangana may also experience strong winds.

The IMD has also forecast isolated heavy rainfall over South Interior Karnataka from September 28 to October 1, while Kerala and Mahe are expected to receive heavy rainfall later in the week.

Will schools be closed tomorrow?

Despite the widespread rain forecast, no school holiday or closure has been announced so far for September 28, 2026. School closures, if required, will depend on announcements from the concerned state or district administrations and individual schools.
