A few days ahead of Raksha Bandhan, this sweet shop in Agra is selling ghevar which costs Rs 25,000 per kilo.

Yes, you read that right. That's because the ghevar is topped with a thin layer of 24 carat gold, and this special preparation is called Golden Ghevar.

This Rs 25,000/ per kg sweet has been made by Braj Rasayan Mitthan Bhandar near Shah Market in Agra. Ever since its arrival, people have been thronging the shop to see and buy the sweet. Despite the steep price tag, according to reports, 12 kg of Golden Ghevar has already been sold so far.

According to shop owner Tushar Gupta, Golden Ghevar has a mixture of dry fruits along with pistachios, almonds, peanuts, walnuts and a layer of ice cream-flavoured malai on top.

The Raksha Bandhan festival, which falls around the monsoon season in the north of the country, is also the time for ghevar - a disc-shaped sweet made from ghee, flour, and sugar syrup. It's best during the rains as the amount of atmospheric moisture required for making this sweet is ideal during the season.
