TasteAtlas: Six Indian cities feature in world's top 100 best food cities. Check which city tops the list

The recently announced TasteAtlas 2024/25 awards have spotlighted Indian cuisine on the global stage. India secured the 12th rank in the “100 Best Cuisines in the World” list. Additionally, four non-vegetarian Indian dishes made it to the “100 Best Dishes in the World,” reflecting the country’s culinary diversity.

The awards also featured a list of the “100 Best Food Regions in the World,” where six Indian cities were recognized for their culinary excellence.

Mumbai leads with a Top 5 ranking

Mumbai, often referred to as the city of dreams, claimed the 5th spot, earning accolades for its vibrant street food culture and traditional dishes. Street foods such as Bhel Puri, Pav Bhaji, Vada Pav, and Ragda Pattice were highlighted for their unique flavors. Iconic eateries like Ram Ashraya, Shree Thaker Bhojanalay, and Cafe Madras received special mentions for their contributions to Mumbai’s rich culinary landscape.

Amritsar showcases rich heritage
Amritsar secured the 43rd position, gaining global recognition for its hearty and flavorful Punjabi dishes. TasteAtlas praised the region’s food traditions and bold flavors, spotlighting dishes like Amritsari Kulcha, Chicken Tikka, Tandoori Murgh, Saag Paneer, and Shahi Paneer as key highlights of the city’s culinary identity.

Delhi and Hyderabad in the Top 50
New Delhi and Hyderabad also ranked within the Top 50, at 45th and 50th positions, respectively. Both cities are celebrated for their diverse street food offerings, ranging from chaats to biryanis, which continue to draw food enthusiasts from around the world.

Kolkata and Chennai complete the list
Kolkata and Chennai also made the list, securing the 71st and 75th spots, respectively. Both cities offer a mix of traditional and contemporary cuisines that represent the culinary essence of their regions.

Global rankings led by Naples, Italy
At the top of the list is Naples, Italy, renowned as the birthplace of pizza. Its iconic Neapolitan Pizza, recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, remains a must-try for culinary enthusiasts.

These rankings highlight the growing global appreciation for Indian cuisine and its regional diversity, with cities across the country showcasing their unique flavors and traditions on an international platform.
