New hire quits job in just 1 day with 4-word resignation email, internet has a lot to say

The days of carefully-worded resignation emails are slowly fading. Today, many workers are choosing to quit in short, direct ways, some via text or WhatsApp, others with just a few words. In a recent case, a new employee resigned using just four words, “Maza nahi aa raha” (I am not enjoying it).

The story was shared by Maya Sharma, Vice President at Dhurina, an edtech company focused on making education affordable. In a LinkedIn post, she said a young woman who had joined the company recently sent the blunt resignation email just one day after starting work.

Sharma explained that the new hire had gone through two days of training and officially joined the company on 2 April. On her first day, she even sat through a key meeting where the company shared its financial updates and achievements. But by the very next day, she decided to leave.


“Recently, we welcomed a new hire. A fresher, young woman. She attended 2 days of training with a senior colleague. She trained her on almost everything, including Google Sheets shortcuts,” Sharma wrote on LinkedIn.

She added, “On her first working day, she was part of a strategic meeting. But the next day, she sent us her resignation mail: ‘Maza nahi aa raha.’ That’s it. That’s the story. We are still figuring out how to react.”

Sharma’s post got a lot of attention on LinkedIn. Many people shared similar stories and opinions in the comments. One user wrote, “Maybe she wasn’t getting the vibes she wanted.” To this, Sharma jokingly replied, “Going back to ask ChatGPT how to give vibes to employees.”

Others recalled similar experiences. One person said, “We were interviewing a senior engineer once. Halfway through, he said, ‘Yaar mera mann nahi hai’ and left the call.” Another user commented, “Some people need jobs like they need food. Others treat job hunting like visiting cafes.”

A fourth person added, “Interesting to see freshers taking such bold steps. In my first job, I was just happy to exist in the company. I tried to soak up everything, the good, the bad and the ugly!”
