Kiara Advani quits Ashutosh Gowariker’s “Lijjat Papad” movie

Bollywood actress Kiara Advani has supposedly quit Ashutosh Gowariker’s Karram Kurram. According to media reports, the Kabir Singh actress felt that the movie lacked commercial appeal and, hence, decided to step back. Karram Kurram is based on the success story of Lijjat Papad, the popular FMCG brand helmed by women.

Lijjat Papad is one of the most recognisable brands in the FMCG industry. It’s a product of Shri Mahila Griha Udyog Lijjat Papad, an Indian women workers’ cooperative that manufactures various FMCG products. Starting with a capital of Rs. 80 in 1959, the cooperative had a yearly turnover of over Rs. 1,600 crores in 2019.

According to a News18 report, a source close to the parties said that Kiara felt it wasn’t perfect for her career and wasn't a commercially viable project. While the makers haven’t confirmed the actress’s exit, the source expected them to make the announcement after they find a new lead for the role. The actress will be next seen in Govinda Mera Naam and Satyaprem ki Katha. She will also be seen alongside superstar Ram Charan in the Telugu film RC15.


Ashutosh Gowariker is one of the most prolific directors of modern Indian cinema. He’s known for several commercial and critical successes, including Lagaan, Swades, and Jodha Akbar. However, his last two major releases, Mohenjo Daro and Panipat, failed to score big at the box office. Furthermore, the two movies also turned out to be critical failures.
