Renowned hairstylist and entrepreneur Jawed Habib has shared a blunt reality check about hair loss in a recent episode of the Startup Pedia Podcast. According to Habib, the reason many young people today are losing hair has little to do with shampoos, hair oils, or trending online routines. Instead, it boils down to simple habits and scalp care.

Scalp Hygiene Over Hair Products

“Just wash your hair every day. If the scalp is clean, your hair will breathe, and if it breathes, it will not fall,” Habib told Jameel Akhter, co-founder of Startup Pedia and podcast host.

He pointed out the irony that India is the largest consumer of hair oil, yet hair loss remains widespread. Excessive oiling can block pores and mix with dirt, preventing the scalp from breathing properly.

Why Older Generations Have Better Hair

Habib compared modern and traditional lifestyles, noting that many fathers and grandfathers still have fuller hair despite growing up on simpler diets of dal and rice. In contrast, today’s kitchens are filled with supplements and complicated dietary trends, yet hair problems are more common.

The Five Essentials for Healthy Hair

The hairstylist emphasised returning to natural and simple habits. According to him, healthy hair depends on five basic ingredients typically found in Indian kitchens:
  • Water – for proper hydration
  • Milk – for protein and nutrients
  • Pure ghee – for scalp nourishment
  • Lentils – for hair-strengthening protein
  • Green vegetables – for essential vitamins

Habib believes that prioritising these fundamentals, along with adequate sleep and hydration, is far more effective than expensive hair treatments or chemical products.
