Jaaved Jaaferi, known for 'Boogie Woogie', lives in a 7,000-sq-ft Bandra home with Arabian Sea view, Mediterranean interiors, onyx dining table and earthy-toned furniture

Actor and television personality Jaaved Jaaferi has returned to Bandra, the Mumbai suburb where he spent much of his early life, with a new 7,000-sq-ft sea-facing home. The actor recently opened the doors of the residence to Architectural Digest, revealing an interior built around warm colours, natural materials and family memories.

Designed by Kush Bhayani of KULx Studio, the apartment overlooks the Arabian Sea and follows a Mediterranean-inspired aesthetic. Jaaferi gave the designer a simple brief for the home: “Warm, natural, eclectic.”

A Mediterranean-inspired sea-facing home

The apartment uses an earthy colour palette throughout its living spaces. The living room features a sage-toned two-sided sofa surrounded by earth-toned furniture and green accents, creating a warm and relaxed setting.

Textured micro-concrete walls run across the home, while patterned rugs, cured wood logs and translucent stone surfaces add layers to the interiors. The combination gives the apartment a rustic yet contemporary character.

The home also reflects Jaaferi's long connection with Bandra. He spent around four decades in the suburb before moving to Lokhandwala with his children. His return to Bandra therefore became more than just a change of address.

Onyx dining table becomes the family gathering spot

One of the family's important additions was a proper dining table. The space features an onyx slab placed on wooden logs, with upholstered chairs surrounding it. Bespoke sculptural fabric pendant lamps hang above the table.

The dining area has also changed how the family spends time together. Instead of taking meals separately in their rooms, the family now has a designated space where they can sit and eat together.

A long terrace provides another shared space. The family uses it to sit, talk and unwind while taking in views of the Arabian Sea.

Reading nook filled with family memories

Jaaferi's love for nostalgia also appears throughout the apartment. A cosy reading nook includes a built-in bookshelf filled with objects collected during family travels.

The space also houses an extensive DVD collection, while his son Meezaan's collection of CDs includes music from artists such as Don McLean and Fleetwood Mac. Jaaferi gifted the collection to his son, making it another personal element within the home.

The interiors therefore do not rely only on expensive materials or designer furniture. Family possessions and travel memories form an important part of the home's character.

Alaviaa's room adds a brighter touch

While most of the apartment follows an earthy palette, Alaviaa's room introduces more colour. The room uses rust-maroon and colourful accents, along with a statement chair and a sinuous mirror.

The contrast allows the individual rooms to reflect the personalities of the family while maintaining the broader aesthetic of the apartment.

For Jaaferi, the Bandra home brings together different periods of his life, from his childhood and years in the suburb to his life with his children today. The sea-facing terrace, family collections and warm interiors make the 7,000-sq-ft apartment as much a home built around memories as it is a contemporary Mumbai residence.
