A Prayagraj resident has publicly asked visitors to stop coming to the city due to overwhelming crowds from the Mahakumbh Mela. In a viral Reddit post, the resident described the city as being at its “breaking point.” While initially welcoming, the sheer number of visitors now hinders daily life for residents, he said. “The last Amrit Snan is already done. We are literally in the ending phase of Mahakumbh. So why the hell is the crowd only increasing instead of decreasing?!” the resident asked.

Prayagraj has 'reached its breaking point'

The resident highlighted that extensive preparations throughout the previous year, including road excavations, flyover constructions, and citywide beautification efforts, were undertaken to accommodate the influx of pilgrims for the Mahakumbh festival. Despite these measures, the concluding phase of the event has seen visitor numbers continue to rise, exacerbating challenges for local inhabitants.

Public transport? Overloaded. Roads? Completely jammed.

According to the post, the overwhelming number of visitors has led to overloaded public transportation systems and congested roads, with even the narrowest alleys clogged with traffic. The resident described the situation: "Public transport? Overloaded. Roads? Completely jammed. Even the narrowest gullies are packed with people and vehicles."

Impact on Daily Life

The continuous influx of pilgrims has reportedly disrupted the daily routines of Prayagraj's residents. The author recounted an incident where, after remaining indoors to avoid the crowds, an attempt to venture out resulted in being blamed for the traffic congestion by visitors. The post questioned the fairness of locals being held responsible for the situation.

'Ganga ji aur Sangam kahin nahi ja rahe'

Concluding the message, the resident appealed to devotees to postpone their visits, emphasising that the sacred sites will remain accessible in the future. "Please, for the love of God, STOP COMING. Ganga ji aur Sangam kahin nahi ja rahe. You can come peacefully later. Have some mercy on this city and its people. We are begging you," he said.
