Google starts testing its ‘Privacy Sandbox’ safety feature for android users

Google will roll out the Privacy Sandbox testing version for limited android users aiming to control the tracking of users data.

Google is all set to roll out the first beta of its multi-year initiative, Privacy Sandbox.

Google explained that the Android users will be invited to try the beta through notification on the smartphone. Google will launch the first beta for Privacy Sandbox to a limited number of android users and it will be made available to the public overtime.

Google launched the Privacy Sandbox initiative for android in February last year. The aim of this multi-year initiative is to protect the user data and provide privacy enhanced advertising solutions. This will curb the sharing of users data with third party apps without consent.


This feature is similar to the App Tracking Transparency of Apple, as it helps the iPhone users to decide which companies can track them and their data in different apps and websites. For doing so, the company must seek permission first. And if the users deny permission, the companies will not be able to track users' data.

Anthony Chavez, Vice president of Privacy Sandbox said that Privacy Sandbox is designed with privacy at core that provides API. It blocks developers or advertisers from tracking the users data across websites and apps. He further said that apps can also use this beta Privacy Sandbox and analyse their effectiveness and send users relevant ads.

Google’s Privacy Sandbox was launched for testing in Chrome. This initiative also focuses on preserving openness of the web by supporting the marketers for doing online business.

Google said their goal is to build an advanced advertising solution where users’ data is safe and developers have tools to succeed. The company informed that till Privacy Sandbox is developed, tested and launched, they plan to support ads platform features and will provide prior notice in case of any changes.
