Bengaluru woman molested during morning walk; CCTV captures incident
In Bengaluru, a woman was reportedly molested during a morning walk, with the incident captured on CCTV. This highlights a broader trend, as the city saw a 55% increase in molestation cases last year. Police emphasize they've adopted a zero-tolera...

The incident happened on August 2. In the video, the perpetrator can be seen groping the woman, who then tries to flee. The man chases her and attempts to muffle her voice. Eventually, the man flees the scene.
The video was shared on Twitter by India Today TV channel.
Last year, Bengaluru saw a significant increase in molestation cases, with 1,135 incidents reported—a 55 percent rise from previous figures. According to a report in the Times of India, out of these 1,135 cases, 1,004 were detected by the police. This marked an increase from 731 cases reported and 688 detected in 2022, and 573 cases reported and 559 detected in 2021.
In addition to the rise in molestation cases, Bengaluru also experienced an increase in cases registered under IPC section 509, which deals with insulting the modesty of women through words, sounds, gestures, or displaying objects. In 2023, at least 60 such cases were reported, with 52 solved. This is an increase compared to the previous year, which saw 29 cases reported and 20 solved.
City police attribute the rise in these statistics to the free registration of FIRs and other factors such as personal enmity or trivial disputes. Raman Gupta, additional commissioner of police (East), told TOI, "We need to analyze the exact reasons for the increase in molestation cases. However, we have zero tolerance for such offenses in public and private spaces. We've issued instructions to women police stations and all law-and-order police stations in the city that such issues should be formally recorded by registering the case rather than settling the matter privately so that suspects don't engage in such acts in the future. The DG&IGP has also instructed to register all cases."
