In a world obsessed with early bedtimes, sugar-free diets and strict routines, a 101-year-old woman from China is quietly challenging everything we think we know about healthy ageing. According to The South China Morning Post, Jiang Yueqin, a centenarian from Wenzhou in China’s Zhejiang province, whose relaxed lifestyle has taken the internet by surprise.

Despite staying up late, enjoying midnight snacks and waking up well past sunrise, Jiang continues to live an active, cheerful life, and even more astonishingly, she still has all her natural teeth.

A Lifestyle That Breaks Every Rule

As reported by several media outlets, most health experts advise sleeping early, eating light dinners, and following a disciplined daily routine. Jiang, however, does exactly the opposite.


Her day usually begins around 10 am, much later than what is considered “healthy”. Instead of a traditional breakfast, she starts her day with a strong cup of green tea. As the evening rolls in, she settles down to watch television and often stays awake until 2 am.

And yes, she snacks.

From local pastries to biscuits, crisps, shaqima and dried sweet potatoes, Jiang enjoys her treats without guilt. Her favourite indulgence is a traditional Wenzhou pastry called Matisong.

Yet, at 101, she has never worn dentures, never needed major dental treatment, and still chews her food comfortably.

How Her Unusual Routine Began

Interestingly, Jiang’s late-night lifestyle wasn’t always part of her life. Two years ago, she suffered a fall that injured her hand and required surgery. During recovery, her family asked her to stop doing household work.

With fewer responsibilities and more rest during the day, her sleep cycle slowly shifted. She began napping in the afternoon, which pushed her bedtime later and later. Eventually, her body adapted completely.

Now, she eats brunch instead of breakfast, has dinner around 6 pm, and if she feels hungry later, enjoys a light snack around 9 pm.
