'Tariff war produces no winner': China rejects US claim on Russian oil, vows to defend sovereignty

When asked about US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's reported statement that he warned Chinese officials on Tuesday that continued purchases of Russian oil would result in higher tariffs, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun responded on Wednesday. He stated that China will take appropriate measures to protect its energy security based on its national interests. "There are no winners in a tariff war, and coercion and pressure will not solve any problem. China will firmly safeguard its sovereignty, security, and development interests," Guo told a press briefing.
