Minnesotans call on Democrats to vote against DHS funding in wake of deadly Alex Pretti shooting

Protesters gathered outside the Minneapolis office of U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar Jan 26, calling on her to oppose ICE funding. The legislation that protestors were objecting would boost funding for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Demonstrators accused federal immigration agents of violent and unlawful conduct, citing recent killings and detentions. Their protest came as Senate Democrats said they would not provide the votes needed to pass a $64.4 bn DHS funding bill. Senate Democrats also urged Republicans to remove it from a broader package to fund other govt programs through Sept 30. The deaths of Good and Pretti have sparked large protests in the Democrat-run city, although on Sunday morning the area where Pretti was shot was calm. Meanwhile Trump's admin on Jan 25 defended the fatal shooting of a U.S. citizen by immigration agents in Minneapolis. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, a Democrat, again called on Donald Trump to pull federal agents out of the state.
