‘A recruiting tool for terrorists?’ GOP split over Hasan execution livestream; Vance, Johnson resist

President Donald Trump is reconsidering whether to livestream the execution of Nidal Hasan, the convicted Fort Hood shooter, following fresh information about his condition and growing disagreements among Republicans. On October 6, it was decided that Hasan's execution by firing squad would take place at Fort Hood, Texas, also confirmed by President Trump. Shortly after the announcement, War Secretary Hegseth stated that Hasan's execution would be public, and the Pentagon said that it would be livestreamed. It would be the first time the U.S. military broadcasts an execution live on the internet. Lately several top Republicans, including Vice President J D Vance, have expressed their reservations about airing the execution of Hasan publicly. There are also concerns that it would create a video that would be a recruiting tool for future terrorists.
