'Any attack on America…': Trump eyes Greenland's oil, minerals; says island is vital to US security

The US President, Donald Trump, announced plans for massive oil, gas, and mineral exploration in Greenland in his Truth Social post. The announcement holds significance as the September 22, 2026 agreement with Denmark and Greenland gave the US permanent access, basing, and overflight rights in Greenland. It equips the US to establish additional military installations required to strengthen its presence on the island. Donald Trump has long called Greenland a strategic island for US defense and mineral hunger. As Trump eyes Greenland for its oil, gas, and minerals, permanent access to it enables the US to heavily reduce its dependency on China. Given the recent energy vulnerabilities arising from the Iran war, the push to access Greenland’s minerals has attained greater meaning.
