Why Gen Z Questions Norms That Millennials Accepted
The way the younger generation has been handling their work life has been quite different from that of their predecessors. Attitudes regarding work have shifted in ways that were different from before, as issues like long work hours and delayed recognition are no longer taken for granted. It could be due to generational differences, but there could also be other issues that stem from their upbringing that are in line with economic and technological changes.

They are more likely to take action on certain issues than their predecessors, even though the level of significance for both generations is the same. This attitude change can be largely blamed on the fact that the new generation entered the workforce in the middle of economic instability after the pandemic. Job security and commitment to a single organization are no longer correlated, unlike how previous generations of employees viewed their career.

Information flow and transparency is something that Gen Z has become more open to because of sudden exposure to technology and access to information right from a young age, as stated by a number of studies published in Computers in Human Behavior (2021). The emergence of different standards for what is considered normal has caused this kind of a rebellion, and it is not necessarily oppositional. Behaviors that were previously considered normal due to efficiency or hierarchical structure are now being judged by the standards of sustainability. Work habits were previously seen as dedication to one’s work, but are now being interpreted as inefficiency or lack of planning.

There is a shift in the way the average workplace functions. Organizations are being asked to change, not only in terms of policy but also in terms of attitude. The expectations brought by Gen Z force a questioning of the status quo, but also reveal areas where the status quo was not actually working.
