Now, all of 32, Francis is looking to take his brand to the next level as he is gearing up for a major expansion in New York City.
According to media reports, later this year, Gymshark will be opening a 13,000-square-foot flagship store on Bond Street. This, as per a New York Post report, will be Gymshark’s first permanent US location.
According to the report, Francis claimed that he adores New York and that Gymshark would thrive there. He said he was honoured to call it the brand’s North American home. In his belief, US is vital for his brand’s global growth.
Building Gymshark
Francis initially began Gymshark as an online business in 2012 capitalising on the increase in digital retail and the rise of fitness influencers, stated the reports. Reportedly, since the turnout at SoHo was very good, Francis thought that Gymshark would find a permanent and loyal customer base in NYC. Gymshark’s retail locations are created as community hubs; they feature workout spaces, personal training sessions and fitness events.

The $20 billion global gym wear market is highly cutthroat especially with major players like Nike, Lululemon, Alo Yoga and others trying to emerge as category leaders. While others like Outdoor Voices and Olympia Sports have succumbed to the competition.However, Gymshark has an inexplicable charm no one understands. It, as per the reports, has something to do with the community that just holds firm to the brand, not to mention the influencer-driven marketing.

Francis, who grew up in England’s West Midlands, experimented with several failed businesses before starting Gymshark. Reportedly, his grandmother helped him learn how to sew. He stitched his early orders by hand.Francis, explaining, said that he wanted to create gym clothes that were breathable, sweat-wicking and odour-resistant.
