Dan Marino found out about the condition for the first time in 2007 during a routine checkup. He said that after he stopped playing football in 2000, he had "let his diet go." He realized that he wasn't working out as much as he used to when he played.
“I wasn't really working out as much as I should — because I used to work out when I played all the time and I kind of got away from that a little bit,”adding, “Those are the things I kind of noticed. Then they told me I had a fatty liver. I had MASH,” Marino shared, reported Parade.
Doctors said that too much fat had built up in his liver, which caused MASH. If left untreated, this can lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer.
"The doctors said right away that it could be fixed and that it could be reversed, but mostly they told me, 'You have to work out.'" Marino said, "You have to lose weight."
