US' Savannah restaurant catches fire, severely damaged overnight
Savannah’s Pearl Saltwater Grille caught a major fire after midnight on Thursday. Firefighters had to fight for several hours to contain the fire, following which they continued to neutralize hotspots.

Shortly after midnight, emergency services units were alarmed at 7000 La Roche Avenue. However, media reports said the fire had been going on for at least half an hour before the first responders arrived at the restaurant. It took more than three hours for the firefighters to get control of the fire, with at least one firefighter reported to be hospitalised due to an injury. Per media reports, roads around the 7000 block of La Roche Avenue were closed during the operation.
Videos emerging in the media show violent flames fuming from the restaurant and firefighters working hard to contain the fire. While the fire was contained till around 4:00 a.m., the emergency services crew remained at the spot to neutralise hotspots in the structure. No civilian casualties have been reported as of yet. The cause of the fire also remains unknown at the moment.
Pearl’s Saltwater Grille is one of the most beloved restaurants in Savannah. The restaurant is known for its cosy and chic ambiance, serving delightful seafood and other cuisines. Overlooking a water reservoir bordered with lush greenery, the restaurant has been a go-to hangout place for the residents and visitors of Savannah. Fire safety officials have said that the structure of the restaurant, built on a water body, made it difficult and dangerous for the crew to access the dock.
A major catastrophe would have occurred had the fire kicked in a few hours earlier. At least 50% of the restaurant's equipment was damaged, and it is likely to take some time to resume hosting guests again.
