The Rookie Season 5: Episode honors Annie Wersching. This is what happened

On February 14, The Rookie aired an episode in honor of Annie Wersching, who unfortunately passed away on January 29.

At the age of 45, the actor passed away after suffering from cancer. She was diagnosed in 2020, but made the decision to keep it a secret so that she could keep performing.

In a statement following her passing, Wersching's husband, Stephen Full, said that there is a vast void in this family today. In the most mundane situation, she discovered wonder. She could dance without any accompaniment. She showed us that adventure doesn't always find you. Go locate it. It's all over. And we'll locate it.


Wersching received recognition in the title card of The Rookie since she had previously participated in the ABC police drama.

Who Did Annie Wersching Play in 'The Rookie'?
The Rookie covers the professional development of John Nolan, played by Nathan Fillion, the oldest rookie police officer in the LAPD.

In Seasons 2 and 3, Wersching played serial murderer Rosalind Dyer opposite Fillion's character. She also made a brief appearance in Season 5.

Wersching's character was seen escaping jail while awaiting trial in the season 5 opening episode. On October 16, 2022, in episode 4, she and Nolan had their final encounter. Dyer is killed by a sniper before Nolan can reintroduce him, so he decides not to.

Even though Wersching's character died earlier in the season, "The Con," the show's fifteenth episode, paid respect to Wersching.

Following Wersching's unexpected demise, The Rookie released a statement through Twitter announcing that the show will be paying a tribute to her in its episode airing on February 14.

"We are profoundly grieved to learn about Annie Wersching's death, who masterfully portrayed 'Rosalind Dyer,'" it read.

"Annie's brightness will always be remembered, both on and off the screen, and our thoughts are with her loved ones. She will be honored in The Rookie episode airing on February 14.”

Wersching most recently had an appearance in Season 2 of Star Trek: Picard, when she portrayed a role known as the Borg Queen. The third season of the program will run on Paramount+ from February 16 to April 20.

The actor is also well-known for playing Renee Walker in season seven and eight of 24, as well as Julia Brasher in Bosch and Emma Whitmore in Timeless. She also provided the voice of Tess in the video game The Last of Us. At 8 p.m. ET on Tuesdays, ABC broadcasts The Rookie.
