US-Israel attack Iran: Flights suspended, airspace closed after explosions — Here’s the latest travel disruption list

US, Israel Attack Iran: Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply after the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iran, triggering widespread flight suspensions and airspace closures across the region. The joint military action, described by Washington as necessary to eliminate imminent threats, has intensified fears of a broader war with Iran, while airlines and aviation authorities moved swiftly to protect civilian air traffic.

Explosions Rock Tehran After US Strikes Iran

Multiple explosions were reported across Tehran after what officials described as major combat operations. According to Iranian media outlets, several missiles struck areas including University Street and the Jomhouri district in the capital. Smoke was seen rising over parts of the city, while further blasts were reported in the northern Seyyed Khandan neighbourhood.

Other provinces, including Ilam in western Iran, also reported attacks, suggesting a nationwide operation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel attacked Iran to remove what he described as an “existential threat.” He added that joint action between Washington and Tel Aviv would reshape regional security dynamics.

One of the areas reportedly targeted in Tehran was near offices linked to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as per a report by Al Jazeera. Iranian officials said Khamenei had been moved to a secure location. Cellphone communications were disrupted in several parts of the capital following the strikes.

Iran Prepares Retaliation; Israel Activates Air Defences

Soon after the Israel-Iran offensive began, explosions were heard in northern Israel as air defence systems intercepted incoming Iranian missiles. Sirens sounded across parts of the country, and a state of emergency was declared.

An Iranian official told international media that Tehran was preparing a “crushing” retaliation. State television reported that Iran attack plans would involve a “strong response” against Israel.

The Israeli military issued a proactive alert, warning citizens of possible missile launches toward the country. There were no immediate reports of casualties from either side at the time of filing this report.
