Bitcoin price today: BTC USD near $77,000 as US midterm elections 2026 put crypto bill at risk - here's what traders need to know
Bitcoin is facing pressure from two directions, investors are pulling money from Bitcoin funds, while the US midterm elections have put the future of crypto legislation back in spotlight.

The cryptocurrency fell below $77,000 level on Tuesday as traders weighed the political uncertainty alongside continued ETF outflows and concerns following the Binance security breach. The election outcome could influence the path of the proposed CLARITY Act, leaving the crypto industry watching for clues about the future of regulation in the US.

Bitcoin's latest decline follows a difficult October, when it lost 7%, recording its second consecutive monthly loss, according to The Crypto Times.

Bitcoin Price Today on Midterm Election Day 2026 - BTC USD Struggles to Hold Near $77,000

Bitcoin traded at $77,400 on Tuesday. And the cryptocurrency's brief fall toward $76,300 earlier in the session underlined the difficulty buyers have faced in pushing prices higher.

Other major cryptocurrencies delivered mixed performances. Ethereum traded at $2,283.85 and Solana fell to $93.26, XRP rose to $1.2765 and BNB slipped to $697.85.

Liquidations have also reflected the pressure on traders. Around $108.25 million in Bitcoin positions were liquidated over 24 hours and approximately $89.47 million in long positions were liquidated.

Bitcoin ETF Outflows Add to Selling Pressure

Money has continued to leave US-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds, adding another concern for a market struggling to recover.

The funds recorded approximately $643 million in net outflows on Friday, followed by another $399 million on Monday, according to Economies.com. BlackRock's Bitcoin fund accounted for roughly $405 million of Monday's withdrawals.

The figures show that investors have been reducing their exposure through these funds. Whether the outflows continue could be important for Bitcoin's near-term performance.

US Midterm Elections Put the CLARITY Act in Focus

The election could have implications beyond the balance of power in Congress. As for the crypto industry, one question is whether lawmakers will make further progress on legislation intended to clarify how digital assets are regulated.

The proposed CLARITY Act is central to that debate. It passed the House of Representatives by 294 votes to 134 in July 2025 but failed to advance through a Senate cloture vote on September 15, receiving 49 votes in favor and 50 against, The Crypto Times reported.

The bill's future remains uncertain. The election could change the political environment in which lawmakers consider crypto legislation, but the results alone will not determine whether the measure advances.

That uncertainty comes at an uncomfortable time for Bitcoin investors, who are already dealing with fund outflows and a market struggling to sustain a rebound.

Binance Breach Adds Another Concern for Crypto Investors

The Binance security breach has added to worries about the safety of crypto assets and confidence in centralized exchanges.

The incident was reported to involve approximately $6.3 billion in stolen cryptocurrency. The net customer withdrawals from Binance reached around $4.7 billion after services were restored.
