Ahead of International Women's Day on March 8, Mattel has revealed eight exclusive Barbie dolls that celebrate the importance of women’s friendship. The four pairs of dolls, which are not for sale, are part of the Barbie Role Model collection, which was created to celebrate and promote extraordinary women from all over the world.

These limited edition dolls honour four sets of influential women in the fields of sports, entertainment, and advocacy.

Olympic champions and actors celebrated

Among the duos honored are Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey, both US Olympic gold medalist gymnasts. Both athletes were part of the United States team that won the gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Chiles, who won a silver medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and has also written a book called I’m That Girl: Living the Power of My Dreams. Carey, who achieved her first gold in the 2020 floor exercise final, also won a medal in the 2024 Games, getting a bronze in the vault final.

The collection also includes Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple, both British actresses best known for their roles on Apple TV’s breakout series Ted Lasso. Waddingham, who has starred in Game of Thrones and Hocus Pocus 2, and Temple, who has appeared in Fargo and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, have been friends since the beginning of their show.

They are also joined by Evonne Goolagong Cawley and Ash Barty, two Australian tennis icons. Goolagong Cawley, a one-time world champion, was a multiple Grand Slam title winner who accumulated four Australian Open crowns and was Barty's mentor as she followed her path to three Grand Slam singles titles. It was a memorable moment in 2022 when Goolagong Cawley came out to present Barty with the Australian Open trophy, given their close relationship and the fact they share a legacy.
