Arizona voters: October 5 is the last day to register for the 2026 US midterm elections, and there is no same-day registration to save you later on
Why is October 5 so important for Arizona voters?
For Arizona voters, October 5 is the date to circle on the calendar. The Arizona Secretary of State's office lists October 5, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. as the final deadline to register for the November 3 General Election. Voters can register online, by mail or in person, but the deadline applies to each method, as per a report by The Copper Courier. There is no same-day registration to fall back on after that deadline.
So if you are planning to vote in the 2026 midterm elections, it is worth checking your registration before October arrives. The Arizona Secretary of State also provides a voter information portal where voters can check their registration status and other election information.
The election calendar does not stop with registration. October 7 brings the next major date, when early voting begins and early ballots start being mailed to voters who have requested them or are on the Active Early Voting List.
What happens after the registration deadline?
Arizona voters have several options once voting begins. Early in-person voting starts October 7 and runs through October 30. Voters using an early ballot can also return it to a County Recorder's Office, an official ballot drop box, an early voting location or an Election Day voting location in their county.October 23 is another date to remember. It is the deadline to request a ballot-by-mail for the election and to join the Active Early Voting List in time to receive a ballot for this election.
If you are mailing an early ballot, timing matters. Arizona election officials must receive the ballot by 7 p.m. on Election Day. A postmark by itself does not extend that deadline. The state's 2026 election guide recommends mailing ballots 7 to 10 days before Election Day.
If you are cutting it close, the state says voters can instead drop off the ballot at an approved location in their county. October 30 is the final day of regular early in-person voting. After that, voters can cast their ballot on Election Day.
What happens on November 3?
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Polling locations are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters who choose to vote in person need to bring an accepted form of identification. There is also one important rule for people who arrive close to closing time: voters who are in line by 7 p.m. are allowed to vote.
For anyone who has not registered yet, though, the important date comes much earlier.
October 5 is the deadline. Once it passes, there is no same-day registration option for the November 3 election. Checking your registration status and updating your information before the deadline can help ensure you are ready when voting begins.
