Amazon to launch 'Remarkable Alexa' with AI for a fee – Here's how much customers will pay

After nearly a decade and a financial loss, Amazon is preparing a major revamp for its Alexa service. The new version will contain a more sophisticated AI that can have conversations, according to people with knowledge of the company's plans.

According to Reuters, there will be two service tiers, with Amazon considering charging $5 a month for the upgraded version.

What is the new Alexa known as?

Reuters reports that Amazon named the updated version of Alexa "Remarkable Alexa." Since Alexa was first released in 2014, this will be the first major update.

Reuters spoke with eight Alexa employees who worked on Alexa. They were not permitted to discuss classified initiatives, so they spoke anonymously.
According to three of them, CEO Andy Jassy of Amazon is particularly interested in making improvements to Alexa, and the company plans to have the new Alexa ready by August.

Amazon's vision for Alexa

In an emailed statement to USA Today, Amazon stated that the objective for Alexa remains to develop the world's greatest personal assistant. They think there is a great chance to enhance Alexa for their customers using generative AI.

They added that they are aiming to deploy generative AI widely and have already included it in a number of Alexa features. This will improve the functionality of more than 500 million Alexa-enabled devices that are currently installed in homes across the globe, making them more reliable, proactive, and personal for users.

Future plans for Alexa

As per the reports of USA Today, to meet the long-term objectives, Amazon posted plans on its website in September 2023 to improve Alexa through the use of generative AI. The vice president of Alexa and Fire TV, Daniel Rausch, described a new broad language model for a more conversational Alexa. Departing executive Dave Limp, also hinted that Alexa might charge in the future if it proves to be extremely useful.
