A 20-year-old employee recently shared a bizarre experience on Reddit, recounting how he was fired just four days into a temporary 10-day position at a local distribution center. According to his post, the job was straightforward: show up, follow instructions, and assist the team. He maintained punctuality, stayed out of trouble, and focused on learning quickly.

Despite this, he was called into the office and told his assignment was over because a supervisor believed he was “acting like the manager of the place.” He received no prior warning or feedback, nothing to indicate there was an issue. Even the HR representative who hired him admitted surprise, stating, “Look, I'm not on the floor with you guys, but this is the feedback I received, so we have to let you go. Thanks for your work.”

A colleague later suggested that the supervisor may have felt threatened by the employee’s competence, interpreting his initiative as a challenge to authority.

The Reddit community quickly reacted, with users sympathizing with the employee while also analyzing the workplace dynamics. One commenter, divedave, noted, “Insecure people with a little bit of power are the worst creatures in the job ecosystem… they fight for ego validation because they perceive you as a threat to their dominance.”

Another user, KaleidoscopeHot9265, described the incident as “blatantly ridiculous,” while wafwot suggested calling out the behavior to prevent it from continuing. Others, like oregongal90, pointed out the legal and practical reality of temporary work, emphasizing that employers can dismiss temp staff without prior warnings and that “overstepping” could justify termination. The post sparked widespread discussion about managerial insecurity, workplace fairness, and the challenges faced by temporary employees.
